On Pagans and Passing Time
Onwards to Spring…
Earlier this week, I told my family that we should celebrate Imbolc this year. Littlest responded with, “Are we pagans now, Mom?!?!” While I don’t consider myself part of any religious category, I’ve been reading Wintering by Katherine May, and she suggested one strategy to deal with the long, cold winter months is to use the wheel of the year calendar to celebrate the changing seasons. The wheel of the year focuses on nature and changes in the amount of light and darkness throughout the year.
Imbolc is six weeks out from the winter solstice and six weeks until the vernal equinox. When viewed that way, the long, cold months of January and February seem a bit more doable. Here’s a couple of posts with more information about Imbolc and how to celebrate it.
If Imbolc is not your thing, February 2nd is Groundhog Day. Even if you don’t care what Punxsutawney Phil sees, you may want to check out Groundhog Day the movie for a couple of laughs. However you choose to celebrate that January is under our belts, take a bit of time for yourself this weekend. Until next week, take care.
